Social Sciences and Entrepreneurship
Social sciences research examines the interaction between human behavior, societal influences, and the cultural context. Entrepreneurship is a particular type of social science, which studies how to create and keep businesses running that satisfy the needs of society. It is a powerful force that can transform industries, communities, and the world in general.
Entrepreneurs who build a business that has a positive effect on the community feel fulfilled and feel they have a sense of purpose. It also lets them leave a legacy to the next generation of entrepreneurs and their communities. Entrepreneurs can make a huge impact, whether that’s changing the way that people shop, improving access to healthcare and education, or combating global poverty and inequality.
Entrepreneurs often engage in social entrepreneurship (SEE) by finding a need, and then implementing innovative solutions to meet that demand. This may involve using their business experience and relationships to expand into new markets, or working with partners to create more sustainable products. This could involve philanthropy in the sense that they want to promote causes that are important to them.
Academics who participate in SEE are able to develop their research by sharing it through the publications of their institutions which is a crucial method to increase knowledge dissemination. This can foster collaboration between industry and academia, as well as aid in the development of entrepreneurial culture. The SSRN Entrepreneurship Collection contains scholarly articles that discuss the underlying theories and concepts of entrepreneurship and how they relate to law and management economics, public policy and economics.
